Heavy Duty valves for mining applications

There are few applications in which valves are subjected to such severe conditions as in mining. The mine slurry transported through the pipes is extremely abrasive and usually has a high solids content – in the case of this Australian iron ore mine, up to 65%. The valves originally installed were unable to withstand this load and showed significant leaks after only two months. This meant that maintenance work on the pumps had to be interrupted repeatedly and the entire plant had to be shut down temporarily.

The fault-prone valves were finally replaced by Wey knife gate valves W 36" and have now been running trouble-free for more than 7 months. To further minimize the risk of downtime, the valves were installed as a double block and bleed system.
