renewable energies

The organic mass from which biogas is obtained is often viscous, acidic, and corrosive. High solids content easily leads to blockages, and long-fiber components make it difficult to close the valve. In addition, elevated temperatures are generated during the fermentation process and must be maintained. All valves must be absolutely tight to prevent odor emissions and comply with environmental regulations.
Our
competence
Our knife gate valve design with self-cleaning principle makes Wey valves perfectly suited for biogas applications. Biogas plants in more than 25 countries in Europe and Asia rely on Wey shut-off quality.
Typical

PROCESSES
Substrate supply
Organic substrates are collected and fed into the fermenter. Coarse particles or fibers can have an abrasive effect on valves.
Fermentation
The biomass is fermented, producing acids and gases. The equipment must withstand corrosion and maintain the optimum temperatures for fermentation.
Gas collection
Butterfly valves are often used for transporting and storing biogas. These must be completely leak-proof and approved for gas applications.
Removal of fermentation residues
Digestate is often reused as fertilizer. Its viscous, sludge-like consistency easily leads to blockages in valves. Dead spaces in the design must be avoided.
